Chief Executive
Officer of Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) Steve Ballmer, who struggled to adapt to the
largest software maker in the world in the technology shift from personal
computers to mobile devices, will retire after more than a decade to lead.
Microsoft has
announced that chief executive officer (CEO) Steve Ballmer will step down in
the next 12 months, once his successor has been set.
"Right now the right time to make the transition. We need CEOs who are here for a long time," said Ballmer.
John Thompson,
will lead the company's independent directors to oversee and find a
replacement, to be brought to a committee in which there is also the founder of
Microsoft is Bill Gates.
Investors
welcomed the move, making the stock rose as much as 8.7% to the highest
intraday price since 2009.
Ballmer replace
Gates as CEO of Microsoft in 2000. The two met in 1973 while studying at
Harvard University and Ballmer joined Microsoft in 1980.
Steve Ballmer is
Microsoft's 30th employee and first manager hired a Bill Gates. Under the
leadership of Ballmer, Microsoft made a breakthrough as Windows Vista, Windows
7, and Windows 8, as well as creative Windows Phone to Kinect for Xbox.
Under Ballmer,
Microsoft's revenue soared from $ 25 billion to $ 70 billion and net income
rose by 215% to 23 billion dollars. According to Forbes, Ballmer is number 51
richest man in the world thanks to their shares in Microsoft, with a total
wealth of around 15.2 billion dollars.
